Travel Club Census for the 2010-2011 Season

By CAYH Editor

In a Chicago Area Youth Hockey Blog exclusive, I have assembled a census of most Chicago area CSDHL/NIHL travel clubs for the 2010-2011 hockey season.  The following list was painstakingly assembled from rosters.  As I do not have rosters for every club, the Admirals, Flyers, and Yellow Jackets do not appear in the list.  The five largest clubs are:

1) Sabres
2) Blues
3) Falcons
4) Leafs
5) Winnetka

Hit the jump for to see the full list.

Sabres 294
Blues 261
Falcons 247
Leafs 243
Winnetka 226
Hawks 221
Vikings 208
Braves 197
Huskies 179
Stars 179
Chargers 178
Express 169
Cyclones 163
Bluehawks 157
Jets 150
IceDogs 148
Redwings 115
St Jude 110
Bruins 109
Jaguars 87
Wildkits 83
Wolfpack 49
Bulldogs 42
Maulers 41
Maniax 25

*CSDHL/NIHL players only

The Bulldogs, Maniax, and Wolfpack are new members of NIHL and as such have only a few NIHL teams this season.  Each club has several more teams that are currently in house leagues.  If you do not see your club here and would like to, please submit your rosters to me at:

Up next: house league census (NWHL, NSYHL, and SSHL).

  1. As a parent of a life long Charger player it doesn't shock me to see the Chargers so far down the list. I believe that they will continue to decline in numbers due to mismangement of the club. I believe to many of the board of directors at the Chargers are either coach's who draw a salary or wives of coach's. This has to stop if the club wants to survie. It's way past time that the bylaws are changed at the Chargers to disallow coach's or thier wives from serving on the board.

  2. We support your feelings about the Chargers program! If the Chargers plan on growing and attracting players to their organization, they need to do a complete over haul. The program is a mess.

  3. I have been a Charger Parent for several years and find nothing but good people who are willing to volunteer their time for the betterment of the organization. They do a good job putting things together. Bigger does not mean better.

  4. The Mite level had problems. the good news is Chargers are getting a new mite coach. hopefully the program will form a strong base. (It will feel good to have a coach support the mites and not leave (walk out) like the last one did!)

  5. The express organization has really hit rock bottom especially at the mite and squirt levels.. The mite level has resulted in what I call "patch work" as they are stealing players to fill rosters from any organization they can...especially from Niles. The express is offering players FREE play for the season to come and play...isn't that against the rules? Almost like being paid to play? The squirt level has one and a half teams this year..pretty sad! They have one full team and only 7 players on their second team!? They ave no Csdhl teams except for midget levels. The new "hockey director" has done NOTHING to improve this situation whatsoever. The board consists of 6 members since many have resigned or been forced out by the strong arm tactics of the new hockey director... The ice time is a joke alltogethher... The coaching, with the exception of one or two coaches is laughable. So many kids have left the organization and the director does nothing to keep them?? I would strongly recommend people to steer clear of this place as it is going in a downward spiral out of control! Go with a more stable organization and let your kids be happy and get the development they are promised and you paid for, that's what it's all about, the kids. We need to keep that focus and never lose it.

  7. I was new to the Chargers this past season and found the above comments inaccurate. I looked on their website at the board list and the only members listed also as coaches are the hockey director and ice scheduler. Unless someone’s wife has a different last name, I do not see any coaches wife’s on board either. From what I heard, the organization grew in 2012 and has well over 200 players. Although some teams did not fare well, they did have a few with a lot of success in NIHL. Like I said I am new and don't know the past but almost everyone was easy to get along with and approachable. I say GREAT job, Chargers. My family is definitely back.
