Headlines: Follow Up Article on George Atis

Toronto's The Star has a follow up article on the George Atis incident.  If you will recall, George Atis is the, uh, lawyer that called a team meeting to remove 12 year old Kayla Watkins from a PeeWee A team.  Here are a couple of quotes from the article:

“Where the heck is the game going if a father like this can call a meeting with parents to discuss dismissal of a player?” he said. “That’s crazy. . . . He ought to be ashamed of himself. These parent agents can get carried away with their own importance.
“It used to be parents got their kids into hockey for the right reasons, to support the team. Now it’s a very singular thing where it’s about my kid, my kid, my kid.”
-John Gardner, President of the Greater Toronto Hockey League

“I find that hockey works best when we let the coaches do the coaching,” she said. “Twenty years from now, nobody will remember who played forward or special teams for Kayla’s former team. They will remember the sheer thrill of playing and the bond they felt as teammates.”
-Claudia Callaway

Are you listening George?

  1. Whats wrong with a parent who is only thinking about themselves or only their kid? If he lived in Illinois I have a wooden nickle to bet he would be railing to get rid of the two choice rule. Makes sense doesn't it?
