Leafs Hit The Road

Leafs families received a nasty surprise in this year's registration packet.  Practices will be held at Barrington Ice Arena for some unlucky Mite through PeeWee teams.  Last I checked, Barrington is not exactly close to the beautiful new Leafs Ice Center and Barrington Ice Arena is neither.

Additionally, each team will play at least one home game at Sears Center in Hoffman Estates.  All of this for a modest fee increase of 5-20%.  One last downer ... practices starting at 4 pm!  Some have taken to calling the Leafs second class citizens in their eponymous rink.

Directly from the registration packet:

The Board continues its efforts to keep expenses reasonable and limited. We have eliminated 60% of our debt over the past 18 months and plan to eliminate the reminder over the next 18. [sic] We recognize that fees continue to increase, and are working diligently to minimize those impacts.
With the continuous growth of our Program, additional ice purchases are necessary for this season to accommodate the number of teams we are anticipating, and to improve overall ice allotment for our teams. The additional ice needed was not available from the Leafs Ice Centre, so we have secured ice at other facilities. While hourly ice rates at the Leafs Ice Centre remain the same, some of the additional ice purchases are significantly more expensive, so a small increase to our program fees was necessary.
The Barrington Ice Arena will be the home practice ice for some Mite, Squirt and PeeWee teams on a weekly basis this season. The Sears Center will also be utilized by our teams. The LEAFS are pleased to announce our partnership with the Chicago Express, member of the ECHL, who skate out of the Sears Center in Hoffman Estates. This arena will be home ice to each of our teams for at least one game—so each of our players will experience skating where the pro’s skate.
Teams may also have the option to pick up practice slots as they become available. We continue to work with the Leafs Ice Centre management to accommodate our ice needs long term. When registering your player for Fall, we ask that you keep in mind some teams may have practice ice beginning at 4PM, or may also be skating out of these other facilities.

FUN!
