A contributor gathered together a nifty spreadsheet that counts all Tier II clubs by metallic level from last season. This is interesting on two counts.
First, you are able to see with a quick glance which clubs are the largest. More teams = more players. Simple! Consider it an update to the census post from a couple of years ago. Since Central States (CSDHL) teams are included, we can say based on this tally that there were over 5,000 Tier II players in Illinois last season. Thank you Blackhawks.
Second, this tally adds fodder to the never ending debate on which club is 'best'. Let's say one way to look at it is those clubs with the most CSDHL, NIHL Elite, and NIHL Gold teams (yes, regardless of record and age level). I will herein call such an arbitrary thing as that the POWER RANKINGS:
1. Falcons - 13
2. Bruins - 12
3. Sabres - 10
4. Blues - 9
5. Tie
Cyclones - 8
Hawks - 8
Ice Dogs - 8
Leafs - 8
There are some BIG clubs not on that list! Now we could modify the methodology a bit and weight CSDHL more and Gold less, leaving Elite as is. Then you could put something in to represent each teams' respective records. All of that is in the spreadsheet for you stat heads to use. But I'll leave it up to any of you who want to tackle that.
Again, the link to the spreadsheet is here:
