Bauer World Invite Chicago 2014 Results

By CAYH Editor

Well the World Hockey Invite 2014 presented by Bauer didn't treat the AA teams from the host state too kindly. In related news, five Michigan teams claim bauer world invite titles. Ok ok, only two of those were in the Tier 2 divisions.

At the '05 Elite level, there were inexplicably two AA teams in with the AAA teams. The Bruins #1 and Huskies Squirt #2 (TWO!) finished 5th and 6th place respectively in the bracket.

Things were a little better over in the '05 AAA level (love the way Bauer/Chicago Mission names these divisions ... not disingenuous at all), where the Hawks made it through to the semis before losing to the eventual champion MT Celement Wolves. The Bruins #2 and Vikings did not escape the round robin.

At the '04 AAA level, both the Falcons and Bruins made it through to the quarter finals, and the Bruins advanced to the semis. The Hawks, Ice Dogs, Blues, Stallions, Jets, and Rockford did not advance.

More success was had '03 AAA level, with the Falcons, Leafs and Hawks advancing to the quarter finals leaving out the Vikings and Blues. Only the Falcons advanced to the semis however, where they exited in an 0-2 loss to the Soo Jr Greyhounds.

Only 3 teams tested themselves at the '02 AAA level. Of the Blues, Falcons and Jets, only the Falcons advanced to the quarter finals where the eventual runner up Southgate Senators defeated them 3-1.

The Falcons, St. Jude, Ice Dogs, Bruins and Blues entered at the '01 AAA level, and the Falcons and Ice Dogs advanced to the quarter finals. The Ice Dogs made it into the semis, where they lost to eventual champion Richmond Hill Coyotes.

As there were 92 teams in the '00 age group, there were 3 divisions with Vapor and Nexus being predominately AA teams and Supreme was the AAA division. Falcons, St. Jude, Leafs, and Bluehawks were in the '00 Vapor division, where the Bluehawks advanced to the quarter finals.

Warriors, Blues and Sabres were in the '00 Nexus division, and the Blues made it into the quarter finals. The Blues lost a narrow decision 1-2 to the eventual runner up Green Bay Gamblers.

There were 96 teams in the U16 age group, with Vapor and Nexus being the AA divisions again. The Sabres, Blues and Falcons were in the Nexus division, where only the Blues made it out of round robin play and they exited at the sweet 16 round.

Cyclones, Chargers, Hawks, and Bruins were in the Vapor division, were the Bruins were the sole survivor to make it through to the sweet 16 and then into the quarter finals where they lost a close one 0-2 to Bauer Emerson.

If you haven't followed the Bauer tournament for the past few years, this is how it usually goes. It makes you wonder why any local AA teams enter the tournament at all. Obviously most don't, but those that do have to play select teams from other states or even AAA teams. Do these teams come in to the season looking to put themselves on the map? Is this a love letter to MyHockeyRankings.com asking to be put on the national ladder for Tier 2 teams?

It is particularly mysterious why Squirt and PeeWee AA teams enter a tournament that is really for AAA teams and Bantam/Midget Minor AA teams ...
