Headlines: Checking Rule, Growth in Illinois

Two big headlines for June:

  • USA Hockey passed the checking rule change by an overwhelming margin at the annual conference held June 8-11 in Colorado Springs. More coverage can be had here.
  • Registrations for the 2010-11 season were also released, and the United States of Hockey has the breakdown.  Illinois had big gains, picking up 4,574 players in two years.  The 12 & under group saw a 23% increase.

  1. The overall increase of hockey players in Illinois is a great thing. I suppose that the Hawks winning the Stanley Cup had a huge impact for this increase. What I find troubling is that I think that the Chargers haven't seen this increase and I'm not sure why. Yes I do have some opinions for this, but I would like to hear what others think.
