NYT: Fair Play Shows Up In The Standings

The New York Times has an article about how a minor tweak to the standings by Minnesota's Hockey Education Program solved a lot of problems:

But its most revolutionary feature is the fair-play point — an extra point in the standings awarded teams, win or lose, for each game in which they take fewer than a designated number of penalty minutes.

Penalties are down, fights are down, and major injuries are down.  Maybe coaches really will do anything to get a point in the standings.
