If you recall, Minnesota Made Hockey Inc. is a private for-profit company in Edina that is challenging Minnesota Hockey's District 6.  The suit is over a new rule designed to prevent players from playing in a competing winter league run by Minnesota Made.  Updates from recent court filings include:

  • Mites have since been excluded from the rule.
  • 40-50% of Minnesota Made's customers come from District 6.
  • District 6 argues that playing in two competitive leagues simultaneously diminishes the experience for teammates and increases the likelihood of injury.
Although a victory by Minnesota Made would result in a system similar to what we already have in Illinois, such an outcome would create a precedent which could be used to mount other antitrust challenges.  This case has implications for AHAI and USA Hockey, and it bears following.
