Headlines: Tribune - No Ice!

We here at Chicago Area Youth Hockey Blog love to see youth hockey get a bit of love from major media outlets. The Chicago Tribune ran an article by Jennifer Delgado yesterday titled "Area rinks running out of time and ice". The subhead goes on to add "In wake of 2 Blackhawks championships, demand is spinning out of control across Chicagoland". I'm not sure this is true across the board, do you?

Please go read the full article here.

Here are some relevant clips about the recent growth of youth hockey:

When the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup three years ago, youth hockey exploded in north suburban Niles, leading the Park District to build a second rink in 2011.
But the extra sheet was not enough. Marty Stankowicz, general manager and hockey director for the venue, said he has had a waiting list of three outside groups and several individuals wanting to use the rinks at the IceLand Skate Complex.
Awesome!
Ice rates vary depending on the time and location, and whether the venue is public or privately owned, but some places said they charge $300 per hour.
Only $300?  I thought it was $350!
So many people are signing up for the Maulers travel hockey team, the Gurnee-based organization now uses two venues to practice, said Rodger Sykes, the organization's travel hockey director.
It's good to see the newer NIHL entrants ramping up.
The Glacier Ice Arena in Vernon Hills, which has already seen a 10 percent increase in enrollment for introductory skating and hockey classes since the Blackhawks victory in June, also expects to benefit from the Olympics.
Now that is news!

Renovations at McFetridge and Oak Park are also mentioned.
